The Duel Commander rules committee made a handful of experimental changes in the September 29 rules update, allowing four cards to be played as a commander again and unbanning one iconic card altogether.

The article notes that the format is in a good place at the moment and that now is a good time to take some risks by allowing some cards to be legal in the command zone. Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar, Baral, Chief of Compliance, Esior, Wardwing Familiar, and Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary are now back on the menu to play as commanders.

Speed and texture of games have changed enough over the years to allow some cards to pop back up despite previous power imbalances. Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar, in particular, was only legal for three months before getting hit by the ban hammer and now has a chance to see if it can still hang in the format.

Lastly, Loyal Retainers was unbanned to give reanimation strategies another angle now that more counterplay has emerged.

The next rules announcement for the format is set for November 24.
