Following preview season tradition, Magic: The Gathering Head Designer, Mark Rosewater, has shared a list of hints and teasers for the upcoming set — Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man.
Rosewater starts off by providing a list of partial details for cards in the set, most notably the reveal of two new types of counters: “ingenuity” and “film”. Also of note, there will be a character in the set from the Ultimate universe other than Miles Morales, and a “famous Spider-Man meme is made into a card.”
Next up, we have a list of rules text provided without context. One such text reads: “Exile those tokens when Mysterio leaves the battlefield…” and while we don’t know the details on card or the tokens, we now know Mysterio is confirmed to be in the set. A few other rules text highlights include “Whenever a creature you control with menace attacks, create a Treasure token” and “If you do, draw X cards, then you may put a permanent card with mana value X or less from your hand onto the battlefield.”
For those of you familiar with Spider-Man, the next section is a series of creature types, many of which are legendary, and look to hint at certain characters. Of these creature types, some of the standouts are a Legendary Creature – Sand Elemental Villain (Sandman?), Legendary Creature – Insect Villain (Scorpion?), and Legendary Creature – Vampire Scientist Villain (Morbius?).
