Magic: The Gathering Edge of Eternities Episode 6 resumes just after the events of Alpharael having touched the mysterious artifact and the Kav army collapsing.

Despite the details proceeding the possession going untold, Alpharael fell unconscious at some point and was put in the ship’s medbay while the artifact went back in the stasis cask. Unable to just leave the Kav to die, Sami and Tan load up the injured and fly to Taro-duend, a temporary mining settlement, to seek medical aid and refuel their ship.

Entering the settlement’s airspace, Sami patches through to the emergency line and explains that they’re carrying a ship full of Kav who have been exposed to a tremendous amount of radiation. Being a Kav-run settlement, the dispatch brings them in with a secure landing and medical services waiting.

In addition to medics, Taro-duend’s postilion meets them, and while the medic asks Sami questions about the accident, the postilion speaks to Tan. Sami explains that the Kavs were exposed by the Hopelight’s fusion engine when it crashed, and the the medics take the irradiated Kavs away a short time later. Having thankfully not been recognized, Tan lies to the postilion about his name and pretends to have been injured in a mining accident on Sigma’s Reach. The postilion buys the story, but mention of Sigma’s Reach prompts an odd response from the Kav:

“Yes, yes, Sigma’s Reach. They’d want Kav labor, wouldn’t they? They’ve been undercutting our moxite with all their fancy mechans. But in the end, if you want to carve treasure out of precious ground, you always need Kav.”

Satisfied, the medics and postilion depart with the injured, leaving Sami and Tan to refuel their ship. Having overheard part of Tan’s conversation, Sami mentions that they found it odd that Tan chose Sigma’s Reach as the location of his “accident” considering there were never any workers actually there. They found it stranger yet that the postilion bought the story and seems to be under the impression that Sigma’s Reach is not only operational, but actively undercutting the Kav’s moxite export. Too curious to let the moment pass, Sami sends Tan to get fuel for the ship while they go to meet with the postilion.

After being granted an audience, Sami asks the postilion about Sigma’s Reach and the impact its export has had on the Kavs. The postilion responds, telling Sami that they had been “undercut by cheap, clean moxite from Sigma’s Reach! I had”—he stamps his staff—”to seek relief from … less respectable elements of our planetary economy. So here I am, among the less respectable elements. Instead of back in Vu with herd and hearth!”

With more of the backstory explained, Sami decides to tell the postilion that Sigma’s Reach never opened and never had any production.

“So, I can promise you, watchful postilion, that Sigma’s Reach is empty. Just machines and dust.” And the sound of a cat crying and a stone rattling against the walls of a pool. “This has been a very interesting conversation.”

Stunned by this revelation, the Kav asks Sami how his investment could possibly be ruined by a mine that was never opened, a question which they’re unable to answer. In turn, Sami takes the opportunity to ask one more question of their own, and moves to show a picture of their missing cat – Mirriri – but before the postilion can respond, his secretary bursts into the room and informs him that the Free Company has arrived and is demanding they “…turn over the escaped spies we’re harboring.”

Looking at Sami, they attempt to explain that they’re not spies, but the old Kav cuts them off with a surprising response:

“Tell me nothing! The day I turn over a fugitive from Taro-duend to any authority,” the postilion roars, “is the day Taro-duend falls into a crack in the world. This is a harbor for scum! Go raise the coach on the phone. It’s time we obstruct justice.”
