Aetherdrift Play Booster Boxes Reduced To 30 Packs, Magic’s Publisher Confirms

Prices per Play Booster not changing for now.

A Wizards of the Coast (WotC) representative has confirmed that boxes of Play Boosters for the upcoming Magic: The Gathering set Aetherdrift will contain 30 Play Boosters, down from 36.

On November 26, Reddit user AcrobaticPersonality posted links to several distributors’ pages that suggested Aetherdrift Play Booster boxes contained only 30 Play Boosters, down six from the number of Play Boosters in a similar box for the recently released Foundations set. The official WOTC_CommunityTeam Reddit account replied to the post, confirming the change and providing more details.

According to the post, the change to 30-count Play Booster displays (the official term for a “box” of packs) arose from feedback given by players and retailers soon after the release of Murders at Karlov Manor, the first Magic set to have Play Boosters. Aetherdrift was the earliest opportunity to change the display size, and 30-count displays will be the norm for future sets, such as Aetherdrift follow-up Tarkir: Dragonstorm.

While the number of Play Boosters per box is going down, the per-pack suggested price for Aetherdrift is staying the same. Aetherdrift Play Booster boxes will in turn have lower suggested prices than 2024’s set releases.

The December 10 edition of WeeklyMTG will have more information about Aetherdrift, including the change to 30-count Play Booster displays.
