Javier Dominguez won Magic World Championship 30 on Sunday with Dimir Demons becoming just the second player in history to claim the title of World Champion twice.

After a runner-up finish in the 2017 World Championship, Dominguez took down the 2018 World Championship to etch his name in the history of Magic: The Gathering. He took it a step further, winning a another World Championship title, matching Shahar Shenhar as the only other player to win the tournament a second time. In addition to another World Championship trophy, Dominguez’s victory propelled him to winning the Player of the Year award, just edging out Seth Manfield.

Dominguez made the Top 8 as the No. 5 seed, going 5-1 in Duskmourn: House of Horror Draft and 6-2 in Standard, joining a stacked single-elimination bracket featuring former Worlds winners Manfield and Kai Budde, and two-time Worlds runner-up Marcio Carvalho.

Dominguez won his quarterfinals against Canadian Ha Pham on a slightly different build of Dimir Demons 3-1 to face Manfield on Golgari Ramp in the semis. Manfield jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but Dominguez completed the reverse sweep in sideboarded games to reach the finals, where Carvalho awaited.

Carvalho was on Golgari Midrange and looking to finally convert his third World Championship finals appearance into a victory. Dominguez would have none of it, and capped the tournament with a swift 3-0 to defeat Carvalho and earn himself another World Championship trophy.

On top of winning $100,000, Dominguez will also become the first player to have their likeness on two different Magic: The Gathering cards. We will have to wait a few years to see what he chooses to make to pair with Fervent Champion — his card from winning in 2018.
