You’ve likely seen pictures or heard tales of people playing Magic: The Gathering in some bizarre places, but a team of scientists based in Ontario, Canada may have set the bar by playing Magic in a research lab nearly 7,000 feet underground.

Shared to the r/magicTCG subreddit this past weekend by user manahydra7, the series of photographs document the team playing games of Commander and Lost Leonin (a shared deck format similar to DanDan), while on break in their laboratory, located in Vale’s Creighton mine 6,800 feet underground.

Adding additional lore to the post, user manahydra7 shares that they work for SNOLAB, a world-class research facility that focuses on “dark matter and neutrino research.” Due to the facility’s unique location, it also oversees various experiments related to biology and geology.

“The lab needs to be deep underground, so we can focus on the particles that don’t get stopped by all that Canadian shield above us” manahydra7 states. “At two kilometers deep, I’m quite sure that this is the deepest magic game ever played!”
