The fan-favorite planeswalker returns in Magic: The Gathering’s next set, this time as a new four-mana planeswalker. Check out her sixth appearance as a main set planeswalker.

She starts with four loyalty and is all about creating Soldier tokens, making other creatures Angels, and returning smaller nonland permanents to the battlefield.

  • +1: Create a 1/1 white Soldier creature token with lifelink.
  • -2: Put two +1/+1 counters on target creature. It becomes an Angel in addition to its other types and gains flying.
  • -6: Return all nonland permanent cards with mana value 3 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield

Of her five previous versions in main sets, this is the third time Elspeth has cost four mana, including her original card, Elspeth, Knight-Errant from Shards of Alara and Elspeth, Sun’s Nemesis from Theros Beyond Death. Four of the five versions created some number of 1/1 Soldier tokens, and Archangel Elspeth continues that trend, though these 1/1 Soldiers have lifelink.

Three previous Elspeth cards pumped up creatures, whether in the form counters or temporary bonuses, and the newest Elspeth also follows that mold. Archangel Elspeth not only puts two +1/+1 counters on a creature, but she makes it an Angel and gives it flying.

Finally, her ultimate takes a different route than all other previous iterations. Playing along with her role as a savior, Archangel Elspeth can bring back all of your nonland permanents with mana value 3 or less to the battlefield to help defeat any opponent she faces.
