New Capenna Story Episode 4
The story opens on the night of the Crescendo, with leader of the Maestro, Xander, instructing Anhelo, his right-hand man, to attend the event in his place. Anhelo agrees and departs, while Xander continues to admire the pieces in museum collection. Once clear of Anehlo, Xander calls out to the shadows: “Have you finally come to kill me, Adversary?”
Xander engages the Adversary in combat, however the shadowy assassin had turned several of Xander’s own against him, and sent them after the aging Vampire. Despite easily besting the traitorous vampires, Xander could not best the Adversary and falls in combat.
Meanwhile, at the Crescendo, Elspeth has taken a job as a floor-waitress, and moves amongst the crowd. As the show begins, Elspeth notices a slew of Maestro who she describes as “out for blood.” She feels that something is amiss and quickly prepares for what’s to come.
On the stage are the two Cabaretti who helped Elsepth get a job at the Crescendo, Jinnie and Giada. Jinnie hands a large, empty vessel to Giada and it instantly erupts in a bright light, revealing it is now filled with Halo.
“In front of you all, with no tricks or games, we have made Halo from nothing. You are the first witnesses of a new order—an order that no longer knows limitations and is no longer held back by diminishing supply.”
The Font was not an object, but rather a person — Giada. The Cabaretti intended to use her as a source of Halo until she was used up, however Elspeth wouldn’t stand for it. The crowd’s cheers quickly turn to screams, as the vampires, corrupted by the Adversary, being attacking. In the chaos, Giada is left behind, but Elspeth quickly gets her to her feet and out a back door. Just when they thought they had escaped, two more guards blocked their path, stating that the Adversary told them “no survivors.”
Before Elspeth can engage, Vivien subdues the guards with a volley of arrows which transform into spectral wolves. As the trio makes their way to safety, a door blasts open and they are approached by Jinnie, Jetmir, and several other Cabaretti.
Jinnie thanks Elspeth for keeping Giada safe, and beckons for them to follow her group to safety. After a telling look from Giada, Elspeth refuses to relinquish the teen, and instead escapes into the night, covered by Vivien, who has summoned a massive spectral dragon.
Back at the museum, the Adversary has been revealed to be Ob Nixilis, who now stands over Xander’s body. One of his henchmen approaches and informs Ob Nixilis of the situation at the Crescendo, and reveals the Demon’s plan — to eliminate the heads of each family and capture the Font for himself.
After putting some distance between themselves and their pursuers, Elspeth, Vivien, and Giada part ways, with Elspeth going along back to the museum in search of Xander and a new weapon. The trio planned to meet back up in the park where the two planeswalkers first met.
