Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Jim Davis, take a look at the black Dragon Spirit from Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty — Junji, the Midnight Sky!
Junji, the Midnight Sky is the fourth legendary Dragon Spirit revealed so far and is a five-mana 5/5 flyer with menace and the choose one option when it dies.
When Junji, the Midnight Sky dies, choose one —
Each opponent discards two cards and loses 2 life.
Put target non-Dragon card from a graveyard onto the battlefield under your control. You lose 2 life.
If Junji dies, your opponent pays a price one way or another. Either they have to discard two cards and lose two life or you get to reanimate a non-Dragon card from any graveyard. The first option scales in multiplayer games and the second ability gives you more options if there are more graveyards to comb through when picking a creature to bring back to the battlefield. You don’t even have to have a deck packed with creatures to get value from the second option, as destroying your opponents’ creatures gives you plenty of choices when picking a reanimation target.
So what do you think of Junji, the Midnight Sky? Will this efficient flyer see play in black decks in Standard as a finisher or combo enabler? Let us know what you think in the comments.
