Countdown To Grand Prix Atlanta: 11 Days Out – Event Overview!

Grand Prix Atlanta is just eleven days away! Cedric Phillips has your event overview of the event, including an awesome Kaladesh Limited main event with preregistered Sealed decks, a full three-day Challenge schedule, and the sweet playmats a certain Guest of Honor is bringing with her!

#SCGINDY October 1-2!

Why hello there! Let me be the first to welcome you to the first installment of the Grand Prix Atlanta countdown blog! This series of blogs will go over anything and everything concerning Grand Prix Atlanta, which, if you’ve ever been to a Grand Prix before, is a lot.

This first entry is simply an overview to give you the rundown about #GPAtlanta and start building the excitement for what’s going to be an awesome Kaladesh Limited Grand Prix. Over the next two weeks, I’ll be going over main event and side event information, artists and cosplayers who will be in attendance, food and lodging options, and much more!

All The Kaladesh Limited You Can Handle!

Magic is, quite clearly, the best card game in the world. I don’t think that’s up for debate. But what the best format in Magic is? That can be discussed for hours! Many are huge fans of Standard, given its rapid fluctuation from week to week and how, just as things get settled, a new set arrives and changes the entire landscape. Others love Modern due to its volatile nature and abundance of turn 3 and turn 4 kills built on unique interactions between cards that clearly were never meant to be paired together. Some like to take things a little less seriously with Commander decks built to reflect their personality, while others love to play and show off customized Cubes that blow people away.

But me? I love Limited. Being handed six booster packs with the goal of building a cohesive and powerful 40-card deck is a challenge I’m always up for, so naturally I’m excited to do so again next weekend in Atlanta. If the Prerelease was any indication, Kaladesh is an incredibly dynamic set to for Limited Magic and we’re even being given the unique opportunity to open up a Kaladesh Invention to really put a deck over the top. I’d say I can’t sign up fast enough, but I already have — and you should too!

Registration Made Easy

As someone who has played their fair share of Limited Grand Prix, the least fun part, by far, is the registration process. Having to crack the packs, sort the cards alphabetically, and register them all feels a lot more like work than anyone wants it to. Fortunately, at Grand Prix Atlanta, we’ve done all the work for you! All main event participants at Grand Prix Atlanta will receive a preregistered Sealed pool so you stop worrying about if you made the right tick mark on the registration sheet and instead put your full attention on what matters — building the best deck possible!

What Else Ya Got?

If you don’t love Limited as much as I do, that’s totally cool. Grand Prix weekends nowadays aren’t only about the main event. It’s about making sure everyone who wants to attend can have an experience they’ll never forget, so we’ve got plenty of other things for you to do! Our Infinite Challenge packages continue to be a huge hit, so we’ve brought those back for #GPAtlanta in both three-day and one-day varieties. I’ll have more on this option later this week, but if you can’t wait that long, you can learn more about our Challenge schedule here.

Guest of Honor

One of the best parts of any Magic tournament? Special guests! Now, we’ve got quite a few amazing guests lined up for Grand Prix Atlanta, but when Terese Nielsen is a part of the fun, you know something special is going down. Terese brings almost two decades of work and hundreds of illustrations for the game we know and love, and it is her unique style that has won her fans all over the globe. From Force of Will to Eternal Witness and Life from the Loam to Rest in Peace, Terese Nielsen is one-of-a-kind when it comes to Magic artwork and it is our pleasure to say that she is the guest of honor for Grand Prix Atlanta

And did I mention she’s bringing some incredible playmats along with her?

What Tomorrow Brings

Grand Prix Atlanta is going to be an amazing event, so one little overview from yours truly simply isn’t going to be enough. Tomorrow I’ll be going over each of the registration options, the rewards that go along with them, and making sure that you know which one is the best option for you. See ya then!
