WotC Cancels All Remaining High-Level 2020 Tabletop Magic Events

For the health and safety of both players and staff, all large, high-level tabletop MTG events have been cancelled.

In response to the on-going COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has announced that all “outstanding 2020 in-person, high-level Magic events including MagicFests” have been cancelled.

Last week, Magic Esports announced events such as the Players Tour and Mythic Invitational would be shifting to online play via MTG Arena, and based on this post, WotC in planning on utilizing remote play options for the foreseeable future.

Furthering the trend of change, beginning with the release of Zendikar Rising this fall, WotC intends to move the future of Magic Esports to “set-based competitive seasons”. While full details regarding this new structure were not provided, we can expect to learn more in the coming months as they explores additional “virtual approaches to competitive play.”

In response to WotC’s announcement, CFB Events also took to Twitter to address the concerns from players who had either purchased a MagicFest Golden Ticket or received a Draft voucher from a previous MagicFest Online registration.
