Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has announced they will be sunsetting the Planeswalker Points system and “removing access to the Planeswalker Points website.”
The decision to move away from Planeswalker Points comes from WotC’s motivation to keep their systems up-to-date and in order to “best serve a modern framework… some software and services must change”.
Planeswalker Points have played a large role in the careers of many Magic: The Gathering players, and several personalities took to social media to weigh in on the end of an era.
While being met with a less than enthusiastic response, WotC is confident moving away from the current system is for the best. For the future of competitive play, a valid Wizards Account will be required and will be supported by the Magic: The Gathering Companion app.
Players will have until May 27 to access their Planeswalker Points accounts to take one last look at their play history before the system goes offline for good.
