Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Mashable, check out the mythic rare modal double-faced card from Zendikar Rising — Shatterskull Smashing!
Shatterskull Smashing is the second example of the modal double-faced cards at mythic rare and doesn’t disappoint. Red decks are often looking for untapped red sources and ways to take out opposing creatures and planeswalkers and Shatterskull Smashing/Shatterskull, the Hammer Pass checks all those boxes with a single card.
Shatterskull Smashing deals X damage divided as you choose among up to two target creatures and/or planeswalkers. If X is 6 or more, Shatterskull Smashing deals twice X damage divided as you choose among them instead.
The front half of Shatterskull Smashing is a Rolling Thunder variant that can only target up to two targets, but comes with the bonus of dealing double damage if X is six or more. While it can’t clear a battlefield of many creatures or go upstairs to kill players, it can pull double duty by dealing with troublesome planeswalkers.
As Shatterskull, the Hammer Pass enters the battlefield, you may pay 3 life. If you don’t, it enters the battlefield tapped.
T: Add R.
Just like Emeria, Shattered Skyclave, the going rate to get a modal land untapped is three life, otherwise it enters the battlefield tapped. Despite the specific names of these lands, they’re not legendary so they can be played in multiples without fear. And with Shatterskull, the Hammer Pass, most red decks aren’t worried about the three life to have consistent mana.
