Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC), check out the newest modal double-faced God from Kaldheim — Toralf, God of Fury / Toralf’s Hammer!
Trample
Whenever a creature or planeswalker an opponent controls is dealt excess noncombat damage, Toralf deals damage equal to the excess to any target other than that permanent.
When cast for the creature side, Toralf, God of Fury is a four mana 5/4 with trample, making it reasonably formidable in combat. Where Toralf really shines, however, is in decks that have access to lots of damage-dealing spells outside of combat. Everything from Lightning Bolt to Ram Through can be used to trigger Toralf’s ability and help you clean up the battlefield or even deal a few extra points of damage to your opponent.
It’s also important to note that damage-dealing sweeper spells like Flame Sweep or Anger of the Gods will trigger Toralf each time excess damage is dealt, meaning if your opponent’s battlefield is full of low-toughness creatures, Toralf will net you a ton of extra value.
Now, onto Toralf’s Hammer.
Equipped creature has “1R, T, Unattach Toralf’s Hammer: It deals 3 damage to any target. Return Toralf’s Hammer to its owner’s hand.”
Equipped creature gets +3/+0 as long as it’s legendary.
Equip 1R
One of the more unique modal double-faced artifacts we’ve seen, Toralf’s Hammer can be played, equipped, then “thrown” at any target for three damage. Once the Hammer has been unattached, it returns to your hand, meaning you can then recast it as either a creature or Equipment.
