Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and OceansofSlumber, check out the first planeswalker to be previewed from Kaldheim — Kaya the Inexorable!
+1 Put a ghostform counter on up to one target nontoken creature. It gains “When this creature dies or is put into exile, return it to its owners hand and create a 1/1 white Spirit creature token with flying.”
Kaya’s +1 ability is great for gaining additional value from creatures already on the battlefield. It also makes your opponent’s spot removal less effective since you’re able to simply recast the ghostformed creature on your next turn. It also acts as a decent insurance policy against decks packing sweepers, as the creatures are replaced by 1/1 Spirits, allowing you to keep up the pressure.
-3 Exile target nonland permanent.
Kaya’s -3 acts as great spot removal for nonland permanents and clears the way for future activations. In some situations, you can even +1 to ghostform your own creature, then follow up by using the -3 on it to return the creature to your hand.
-7 You get an emblem with “At the beginning of your upkeep, you may cast a legendary spell from your hand, from your graveyard, or from among cards you own in exile without paying their mana costs.”
Thanks to Kaya’s five starting loyalty, this powerful ultimate ability is only two +1 activations away. If you’re able to protect Kaya long enough to gain her emblem, it’s almost certainly game over for your opponents.
Kaldheim is currently scheduled to release on February 5.
