Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC), check out a new Orzhov legend, a mythic piece of Equipment, and a reprint coming in Commander Legends!
Rather than pay 2 for each previous time you’ve cast this spell from the command zone this game, pay 2 life that many times.
Liesa, Shroud of Dusk is a five-mana Angel that will always be five mana as long as you’re willing to pay a different price each time you cast it from the command zone. It’s the first time a creature has a cumulative cost reduction from the command zone with the only other type of effect coming from the enchantment, Myth Unbound. As a 5/5 flyer with lifelink, Liesa provides a threatening body that will refill your life total to enable its special command zone ability.
Whenever a player casts a spell, they lose 2 life.
On top of everything else going for Liesa, this Orzhov Angel makes everyone pay to play. Black and white have plenty of ways to gain life as well as combo off life gain or loss, so a Liesa deck will be able to leverage the ability while opponents struggle to stay afloat. Liesa also gets the special etched foiling showcase frame.
Next up is a brand new piece of Equipment — Seraphic Greatsword!
This two-mana Equipment references back to the original Seraph from Ice Age while playing along with Angel themes. Though it only grants a creature +2/+2 for an equip cost of four, when the equipped creature goes after the strongest player in the game, things change quickly.
Whenever equipped creature attacks the player with the most life or tied for most life, create a 4/4 white Angel creature token with flying that’s tapped and attaching that player.
By playing justly and keeping the game close, Seraph Greatsword rewards you with additional Angels. Of course it can also play equally well in an Equipment deck as a great way to provide more bodies to wield different Equipment. Seraphic Greatsword gets an extended frame version as well.
Last up in our batch of Commander Legends previews is the reprinting of Thorn of the Black Rose!
Originally printed in Conspiracy: Take the Crown, Thorn of the Black Rose is one of the easiest ways to become the monarch. With Commander Legends built as a draftable format, this common will give black decks a clean way to take the monarch while providing a deathtouch creature along with it.
