Suspend 4—G

Until end of turn, you may play lands and cast spells from your graveyard.

If a card would be put into your graveyard from anywhere this turn, exile that card instead.

With the exception of this card missing a mana cost and having a suspend cost, the text on this card matches the oracle text of Yawgmoth’s Will from Urza’s Saga. The original version for 2B is only legal in Vintage, where it’s restricted, as it has proven to be one of the most powerful spells in Magic history. While Modern doesn’t have cards like Black Lotus or Lion’s Eye Diamond running rampant, this effect will immediately draw attention.

Not being able to play Gaea’s Will from hand is a significant drawback and suspending it for four gives opponents plenty of time to prepare for what will come by finding a counterspell or significant graveyard hate, but speculation on the card is already ranging from broken to unplayable. Some have pointed to As Foretold as a way to break this card, a combo piece that has enabled other powerful designs similar to Gaea’s Will like Ancestral Vision.

So what do you think of Gaea’s Will? Will it break Modern in half? Will it have larger implications in formats with even larger card pools? Let us know in the comments!
