Gavin Verhey used today’s episode of Good Morning Magic to break down the contents of Commander Collection: Green and explain what it is.
The Wizards Play Network team asked for a product to help local game stores, leading Verhey and Ari Nieh to come up with a spinoff of the Signature Spellbook product. Other products made to help local game stores from this year include the Mystery Booster Retail version and Signature Spellbook: Chandra. The products help bring more people to local game stores and often fly off the shelves.
Verhey and Nieh wanted a new take on the Spellbooks, but chose to not center around a planeswalker, allowing them to get more creative with the collection. They picked the eight cards included by looking for iconic cards, much-needed reprints, and finding cards that could use new art.
The eight cards in Commander Collection: Green are:
- Seedborn Muse
- Worldly Tutor
- Bane of Progress
- Sol Ring
- Command Tower
- Freyalise, Llanowar’s Fury
- Omnath, Locus of Mana
- Sylvan Library
Check out the new art for the cards below:
Sol Ring and Command Tower go in most decks, so these versions have color-aligned specific art to go in green decks. Verhey said they plan to make new-art versions of both cards for all colors. Verhey also said that 2021 will not have any Signature Spellbooks, but that doesn’t mean there will never be another one.
