On today’s Good Morning Magic, Gavin Verhey deck techs three Commander decks from Zendikar Rising — Moraug, Fury of Akoum; Orah, Skyclave Hierophant; & Verazol, the Split Current.
Moraug, Fury of Akoum
The concept of this deck is to set up for one big turn, where the player is able to put multiple lands onto the battlefield and generate a ton of additional combat steps.
Outside of Moraug, the deck hosts plenty of other big threats like Scourge of the Throne to help jumpstart a chain of extra combat steps, and Leyline Tyrant from Zendikar Rising, which allows you to store a massive amount of red mana.
Orah, Skyclave Hierophant
This highly synergistic Cleric tribal deck aims at gaining a ton of value through sacrificing your Clerics. Cards like Rotlung Reanimator and Dictate of Erebos add bonus value to each sacrificed creature.
Alternate win conditions include cards like Sanguine Bond and Ancestor’s Chosen, to gain and drain a ton of life after sacrificing a ton of creatures.
Verazol, the Split Current
Like most Simic Commander decks, this deck packs a ton of ramp with spells like Cultivate and Rampant Growth in hopes of accumulating enough resources to cast Verazol alongside powerful Kicker spells like Rite of Replication, Maddening Cacophony, and Wolfbriar Elemental.
