MTG Japan has revealed the first Duskmourn: House of Horror previews in an announcement of new “Japan Showcase” art and foiling treatments for Magic: The Gathering Collector Boosters. The two mythic rare cards, Enduring Tenacity and Overlord of the Hauntwoods, have both Japanese and English versions.

Enduring Tenacity

Japanese and English versions of Enduring Tenacity.

Enduring Tenacity is an enchantment creature with two creature subtypes, Snake and the never-before-seen Glimmer. It costs 2BB and enters as a 4/3 enchantment creature. When it dies, if it was a creature, it returns to the battlefield under its owner’s control as an enchantment alone. As a creature or just an enchantment, it has the rules text, “Whenever you gain life, target opponent loses that much life.” This makes it a less expensive version of Sanguine Bond, a popular Commander card.

The announcement also includes art for Enduring Courage, Enduring Curiosity, and Enduring Innocence, strongly suggesting that Enduring Tenacity is part of a cycle.

Overlord of the Hauntwoods

Overlord of the Hauntwoods is another enchantment creature, an Avatar Horror. It costs 3GG and has power and toughness 6/5. It has the impending mechanic, details currently unknown, with “Impending 4 – 1GG” and “Whenever Overlord of the Hauntwoods enters or attacks, create a tapped colorless land token named Everywhere that is every basic land type.” Notably, Overlord of the Hauntwoods creates the first land token in MTG history. The Everywhere token has all five basic land types – Forest, Island, Mountain, Plains, and Swamp – and can tap for any of the five colors of mana.

Overlord of the Hauntwoods may also be part of a cycle. The announcement revealed art for a similarly named card, Overlord of the Boilerbilges.
