Boros Gets Reanimating Spirit Cleric In Venerable Warsinger In Strixhaven

Could this new Boros rare be Magic’s next most pushed creature?

Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Kotaku Australia, take a look at this reanimating Spirit Cleric from Strixhaven: School of Mages — Venerable Warsinger!

Vigilance, trample

Whenever Venerable Warsinger deals combat damage to a player, you may return target creature card with mana value X or less from your graveyard to the battlefield, where X is the amount of damage Venerable Warsinger dealt to that player.

Venerable Warsinger is what some would consider a “pushed” card. A three-mana 3/3 with vigilance and trample makes for a strong midrange creature, but when you tack on an ability that can (theoretically) return creatures of any casting cost from your graveyard to the battlefield for free, we start entering the pushed zone — where cards have insane abilities and zero drawbacks.

None. Zip, zero, nada.

Questing Beast

Want to resurrect a Questing Beast? Just give your unblocked Warsinger +1/+1 and you’ve got yourself two pushed creatures! At the very minimum, you can pair Warsinger with Alseid of Life’s Bounty to have a recurring source of protection. Move over, Lurrus — there’s a new reanimating three-drop in town.

Previewed alongside Venerable Warsinger was a Boros uncommon — Rip Apart.
