The Magic: The Gathering Twitter account announced there will be a Banned & Restricted list update affecting only Historic on Monday.
Despite Wizards of the Coast (WotC) making an unannounced update to the B&R list on August 3 that affected four formats, WotC is going back to an announcement for an announcement with this update to Historic. The metrics and reasons for an emergency update versus a scheduled update are unknown, especially after the August 3 update not only announced the banning of multiple cards but the update was implemented on Arena later that day. With Monday’s announcement only impacting Historic, it seems like this could be another same-day update.
While no one knows for sure what card or cards will be banned, suspended, or unbanned or unsuspended on Monday, the most talked about target is Field of the Dead. A card that has already been removed from the format and brought back earlier this year has gained new tools thanks to Amonkhet Remastered introducing Hour of Promise to the format. On top of Hour of Promise, Field of the Dead decks recently got Explore from Jumpstart and Thoughtseize from Amonkhet Remastered.
Players and content creators alike took to Twitter with their predictions, mostly based around Field of the Dead getting the ax once again.
