One of Magic’s most accomplished and respected players, Yukuhiro adds a Pro Tour win to his already impressive resume that includes four prior Pro Tour Top 8’s (Avacyn Restored, Eldritch Moon, Amonkhet, Rivals of Ixalan) and a whopping 10 Grand Prix Top 8’s, including wins at GP Singapore in 2013 and GP Nagoya in 2018.
With only two losses in the swiss rounds, Yukuhiro entered the Top 8 as the first seed, which paired him against fellow Mono-Red Aggro player, Andy Garcia-Romo. After dispatching Garcia-Romo, Yukuhiro moved on to the semifinals and another mirror match against Yuchen Liu. Despite putting up a good fight, Liu also fell in Game 5, and Yukuhiro advanced to the finals against the up-and-coming Ian Robb on Izzet Prowess.

Despite only recently making the jump from the Pokémon trading card game to Magic, Robb managed to make the Top 8 of two consecutive Pro Tours. In Pro Tour Aetherdrift, Robb was dispatched in the quarterfinals by eventual champion, Matt Nass, and history once again repeated itself as Yukuhiro was able to best Robb in three quick games to claim the title of Pro Tour MTG—FINAL FANTASY champion.
The Top 8 of this event featured an even split between Izzet Prowess and Mono-Red Aggro, the first and third most represented decks of the event at 42.3% and 10.9%, respectively. With strong results backing overwhelming metagame percentages, red is undoubtedly the strongest color in Standard. With the next Banned & Restricted announcement just a week away and rotation occurring August 1, the Magic world will be anxiously waiting to see what Wizards of the Coast (WotC) decides to do to shake up the format.
