World Of Monty Python Coming To MTG With Two Secret Lair Drops

Two volumes of Monty Python and the Holy Grail Secret Lair drops are coming soon

‘Tis But a Scratch! illustrated by Greg Staples

Another beloved movie is joining the ranks of IP to cross over into Magic: The Gathering via Secret Lair drops — Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Much like The Princess Bride and The Evil Dead before it, Monty Python and the Holy Grail will be coming to Magic in the form of two separate Secret Lair drops included in the Summer Superdrop 2024. Check out the cards and token that put a twist on some classic cards, capturing iconic characters and moments from the 1975 comedy.

Monty Python And The Holy Grail: Vol. 1

The first volume contains five cards, one of which is double-sided. These cards reskin Prodigal Sorcerer, Buried Alive, Dismember, Three Visits, and Birds of Paradise. The drop includes:

  • Tim the Enchanter
  • Bring Out Your Dead!
  • ‘Tis But a Scratch!
  • We Want … A SHRUBBERY!
  • African Swallow/European Swallow

Birds of Paradise is a double-faced card depicting both the African Swallow and European Swallow with fitting flavor text fore each. Though it does potentially show a five-ounce bird carrying a one-pound coconut.

Monty Python And The Holy Grail: Vol. 2

The second volume only has three cards and a token, but the flavor is spot on. It has new versions of Door to Nothingness, Ashnod’s Altar, Dark Depths, and a Marit Lage token. The names for the cards are:

  • The Bridge of Death
  • Sir Bedivere’s Scales
  • Castle of Aaargh
  • The Black Beast of Aaargh

The Castle of Aaargh shows the knights reading the last words (perhaps he was dictating) of Joseph of Arimathea on the wall moments before encountering the legendary Black Beast of Aaargh.

A price for the drops has yet to be revealed, but if they are like the other drops revealed so far, a foil version should be $39.99 and a non-foil version should be $29.99. However, a limited number of foil drops will be available at the Pulse Booth at San Diego Comic-Con this week.

The Inside an Elevator Superdrop which goes on sale at 9 AM PT on July 29 on the Secret Lair site.
