Wizards of the Coast (WotC) is shutting down the Magic Spellslingers mobile game after just 18 months.
The Spellslingers developers shared the news yesterday via the game’s Steam portal, as well as through an in-app notification, stating “It is with both gratitude and sorrow that we are announcing the sunset of Magic Spellslingers.” While in-app purchases were shut off at the time of the announcement, the servers for the game will remain in operation through noon on June 4, 2024.
Despite mixed reviews and marketing struggles, Magic Spellslingers still managed to amass a dedicated player base. Many in the community had seen the writing on the wall months ago however, citing evidence like the game’s last engagement on X (formerly Twitter), being in May of 2023.
In a move to lessen the blow to dedicated players, those with Magic Spellslingers accounts created prior to March 6 can log in to MTG Arena, link their account, and claim 1500 gems.
