Today’s Weekly MTG stream gave additional details on the upcoming Ravnica: Clue Edition product that is set for release on February 23.

Mike Turian and Mark Rosewater joined Blake Rasmussen to go over the contents of the Ravnica: Clue Edition box and previewed a couple of cards contained within it.

Ravnica: Clue Edition is a new way to play multiplayer Magic: The Gathering that is ready to play right out of the box. It mixes the sleuthing and detective work from the original Clue board game with the strategy of MTG. Each package of Ravnica: Clue Edition comes with eight 20-card packs that supply the cards to play the actual game of Magic. Players open two of the packs and shuffle them together, similar to Jumpstart, to use as their deck. The packs use the Ravnica guilds as themes. They are:

  • Azorius Senate
  • Orzhov Syndicate
  • House Dimir
  • Izzet League
  • Cult of Rakdos
  • Golgari Swarm
  • Gruul Clans
  • Boros Legion
  • Selesnya Conclave
  • Simic Combine

Ravnica: Clue Edition also comes with the 21 evidence cards that include the suspects, weapons, and rooms. All the characters from the board game are included, but are not used as cards for players’ decks, but as pieces to be selected and sealed away in the case file envelope sleeve. However, the characters have MTG designs and can be played in Commander and eternal formats like Legacy and Vintage.

The five weapons (notably excluding the revolver) are new treatments of cards that appear in Murders at Karlov Manor. The 10 rooms (with an added Secret Passage to make up for the lack of the revolver and to have a room for each guild) are Clue-themed lands that enter the battlefield tapped and can be used to investigate. Similar to the suspects, the weapons and rooms are not used in players’ decks, but are picked as cards to go in the case file envelope to be guessed.

To mix Clue and Magic, players can ask another player questions about what pieces of evidence they hold when a creature they can control deals combat damage to that player. A player can win the game by solving the case (guessing the suspect, weapon, and room the murder took place in) or by eliminating all the other players. If a player offers a final guess that is incorrect, they are not removed from the game like in the Clue board game, they just no longer can solve the case leaving them the option to win the game via defeating the other players in the game of Magic.

Ravnica: Clue Edition will also introduce 20 new rares and 10 new uncommons that will be eternal legal. Each pack contains one of the new rares and one of the new uncommons. Take a look at one of the rares and uncommons below.
