Nass, a longtime professional Magic: The Gathering player, added a career-defining victory to his list of top finishes that include five Grand Prix wins and a Top 8 at Pro Tour Kaladesh. Nass went 5-1 in Aetherdrift Draft and undefeated in Standard with his take on Domain Overlords, which opted for zero copies of Cavern of Souls. He cruised into the Top 8 as the No. 1 seed, locking up his Sunday slot in Round 13 of the 16-round event.

Nass kicked off the Top 8 matches with a relatively quick win over Ian Robb on Mono-Red Aggro in four games. The rest of his matches would be intense Domain Overlord mirrors for the remainder of the single-elimination bracket. Nass defeated Christopher Leonard in four games, leaving just James Dimitrov, in his first ever Pro Tour, between him and a Pro Tour trophy. The two players traded games, setting up a Game 5 to decide the whole tournament. Dimitrov got off to a quick start and played the aggressor in the matchup, but Nass was able to stabilize just in time then turned the corner with a barrage of Overlords and the lifelink bonus from Zur, Eternal Schemer.

With three copies in the Top 4, including both finalists, Domain Overlords was the top deck from the tournament, clocking a 55.9 percent win rate while being the third most-played deck at the Pro Tour. Gruul Aggro variants and Esper Pixie were the top two decks in representation. Esper Pixie failed to reach the Top 8, but three Gruul or Mono-Red Aggro decks also made the elimination rounds. The other two decks in the Top 8 were Kenta Harane’s Jeskai Oculus and Zevin Faust’s Goglari Beanstalk brew.
