The Magic: The Gathering Duel Commander Committee has announced two major changes for the fledgling format.
Nadu, Winged Wisdom – Banned
Unsurprisingly, Nadu Winged Wisdom’s time in yet another format has come to an end. According to the Duel Commander Committee, Nadu “…bypasses most traditional hate options, and truly effective disruption options are too rare or too restrictive…”. These factors, combined with the format’s powerful tutors and a “non-deterministic combo,” have lead to Nadu being banned in Duel Commander.
Breya, Etherium Shaper – Unbanned
Now that the Duel Commander metagame has grown faster and more powerful, the “context that led to [the] ban is no longer relevant” and Breya, Etherium Shaper is free to return to the format. While the unban is still being considered “experimental” and can be reverted if necessary, the format committee believes Breya’s return will add a healthy diversity to the current metagame.
