Following preview season tradition, Magic: The Gathering Head Designer, Mark Rosewater, has shared a list of teasers for the upcoming set – Bloomburrow.

Rosewater’s teasers include tiny hints for what Magic fans can expect from the new set. These hints include a new mechanic that’s actually a rework of a mechanic first introduced in 2013, a 10-card cycle that “acts as typal glue,” and more. Since Bloomburrow is a set with a heavy emphasis on typal synergies, many cards will grant the caster additional value from having specific creature types in play. Take these rules texts for example:

  • “for each other Squirrel and/or Food you control.”
  • “If you control a Raccoon, you may discard a card.”
  • “if it’s the first instant spell, the first sorcery spell, or the first Otter spell”

In addition to Squirrel, Raccoon, and Otter, there are tons of other fun creature types in Bloomburrow, including Skunk Assassin, Badger Warrior, Bird Dragon, Hamster Citizen, Frog Advisor, and more. Being a creature-focused set, Bloomburrow wouldn’t be complete without plenty unique counters to influence gameplay. These counters are:

  • +1/+1
  • Blight
  • Coin
  • Finality
  • Flood
  • Flying
  • Indestructible
  • Loyalty
  • Stash
  • Stun
  • Supply

Closing things out, Rosewater shared the names of 10 individual cards from the set:

  • Crumb and Get It
  • Festivals of Embers
  • Hop to It
  • Kitnap
  • Playful Shove
  • Polliwallop
  • Rabid Gnaw
  • Shrike Force
  • War Squeak
  • Wishing Well

Bloomburrow is scheduled to release on August 2. View our official preview gallery.
