MTG Booster Pack Updates Coming In 2027 Will Include God Packs

God Packs will start in 2027 for Booster and Collector Booster packs for in-universe sets

Wizards of the Coast (WotC) announced today that Magic: The Gathering booster packs are changing, once again, starting in 2027.

With the launch of Nauctis: The Sunken Realm in 2027, Magic is changing the name of Play Boosters to Boosters and is bringing back the fabled “God Packs.” For next year, every Magic Multiverse set will have God Packs appear at a drop rate of one in every 1,000 Booster packs and one in every 300 Collector Booster. WotC expects these changes to happen in 2028 for Universes Beyond offerings.

First, take a look at the contents of the Booster God Packs.

These lucky packs include:

  • 1 God Pack celebration card
  • 10 Non-foil rare and/or mythic rare cards
  • 2 Non-foil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare cards
  • 2 Traditional foil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare cards

The Collector Booster God Packs will look like this.

The contents for these packs are:

  • 1 God Pack celebration card
  • 1 Foil land
  • 3 Foil default frame rare and/or mythic rare cards
  • 3 Non-foil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare cards
  • 5 Foil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare cards

In order to facilitate these packs, WotC is updating how normal Booster and Collector Booster packs will be produced. Boosters will see the removal of a guaranteed foil in every pack, which means the complete removal of common and uncommon foils in Boosters. This will lead to more foil rares and mythic rares in Boosters. As for Collector Boosters, two common foils and on uncommon foil card will be removed from each pack. WotC states these cards are often considered filler and less desirable from collectors and players.

With the removal of the lower-rarity foils, some special cards will see higher drop rates. The extremely sought-after Japanese Showcase treatments will now be pullable in Boosters in the wildcard slot.

WotC noted that these changes will not impact the prices of Booster or Collector Booster packs. For those wondering how God Packs might impact Limited play, the WPN site recommends celebrating the opening of a God Pack, letting the player keep the pack, and replacing the pack with another Booster for the event.

No details were given if God Packs will appear on MTG Arena or Magic Online.
