It looks like Magic: The Gathering’s next Secret Lair Superdrop is going to be here shortly and feature partnerships with Marvel, KPop Demon Hunters, and more.
The Secret Lair X and Bluesky accounts teased the Corn Maze Superdrop with a few images and an arrival date of October 12. While the images revolve around the title corn maze, other easter eggs are hidden in the stalks as well as in the legalese found at the bottom of each image. Trademarks for Marvel, KPop Demon Hunters, and The Jim Henson Company/Labyrinth Enterprises can all be found on each image alongside Wizards of the Coast.
Marvel’s inclusion comes as no surprise, following multiple Standard-legal expansions and other Secret Lair drops boasting the superhero IP. The KPop Demon Hunters collaboration was also hinted at last year when Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks said it would be featured in a future Secret Lair product.
Magic has teamed up with The Jim Henson Company a handful of times lately, so the Labyrinth inclusion seems fitting following the explosion in popularity of Squen and Cragg from Lorwyn Eclipsed promotional material. Labyrinth was a1986 musical fantasy starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly, directed by Jim Henson and produced in-part by George Lucas.
Those who scan the images will find a cow being abducted by a UFO, a magpie that looks awfully similar to Susie from Kpop Demon Hunters, a clock with 13 hours on the face, which could reference the main character in Labyrinth having 13 hours to find her brother in a maze, and a hand holding crystal balls that likely belongs to Jareth, the Goblin King, from the ’80s flick.
Other references will likely be found in the coming days as we await the launch of the Corn Maze Superdrop on October 12.
