Recently, the Showcase frame variants of Hidetsugu, Devouring Chaos from Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty have been making waves thanks to their exclusivity and rising price tag. Now however, there’s another reason to covet these unique cards — an augmented reality (AR) activated easter egg!
Shared to the MagicTCG Subreddit by Pinfinity founder Caleb Paullus, the card’s unique easter egg is activated by using Pinfinity’s mobile app. Once scanned, the card will “come to life with some slappin’ music…” and you can tap to change the color effects. You can also tap the graphic to download a bonus wallpaper.
According to Paullus, the AR effect was intentionally developed with the marketing team at Wizards of the Coast (WotC) as a unique “little treat” and currently only works with the Showcase frame variants of Hidetsugu, Devouring Chaos. When pressed on whether future cards would be getting this treatment, Paullus stated that they are currently “in discussion.”
