Episode 1 and 2 of the Aetherdrift story sets the table for the set, introducing the main characters and offering glimpses of other planeswalkers that appear to be up to no good.

The Dashing and the Desperate reveals the creation and powering up of the Aetherspark, an invention of a young inventor named Ishikari, during the Phyrexian invasion. Two years later we meet Sita, or Spitfire as the underground racing world knows her, the daughter of Mohar, a former officer of the consul before the Indigo Revolution. She is preparing to race for the Aether Rangers, with Pia Nalaar acting as the crew chief despite Chandra joining the Cloudspire Racing Team.

Chandra is a multiverse legend and is swarmed by paparazzi as she gets some tea a day before the Ghirapur Grand Prix. We see many characters watching the interview on their version of television, including Winter, who needs to win the Aetherspark for his team — the Speed Demons — to earn his freedom.

Pit Stop begins with Chandra and Nissa having a nice moment the morning before the race, with Chandra telling her she wants to win the Aetherspark so Nissa can visit home again. We find out there isn’t a rift between Chandra and her mother, as having two shots at winning the Aetherspark increases the odds of Nissa getting the chance to planeswalk once again.

Sita sneaks off to take part in the Ghirapur Grand Prix, telling her father she is starting a internship. Mohar is set in his ways and resents the current culture, but still is proud of his daughter and wants her to achieve great things. We learn that Night Minister Gonti has cut corners with construction and probably all aspects of the race to save money, which leads to an observation deck collapsing at the start of the race.

The falling debris from the tower allows Spitfire to put on a dazzling display of racing, which is featured on every broadcast of the race that even her father witnesses (despite him not knowing it is his daughter). Spitfire reaches the Omenpath, believing she won the first leg of the race, but discovers she will have to settle for second place as the Speed Demons team passed her right before landing in Amonkhet.

Episode 2 ends with Jace and Vraska visiting Mohar. Jace tells him that if he helps them, Mohar can return him to his glory at the consul before Kaladesh was revolutionized and became Avishkar. Jace invades his mind, showing Mohar an image of the world as he wished it to be once again.
