When Magic: The Gathering revealed their 2025 product lineup last year, they introduced us to Edge of Eternities – a Sci-Fi, space fantasy set – slated to be released in August. Since Edge of Eternities is the fourth Standard set release of the year, no one expected it would be the first set to have details revealed early.
While they may not be the most exciting details, a keen-eyed Redditor noticed that two websites had published UltraPro playmat listings months ahead of time.
Magic fans love to speculate, especially when it comes to new sets in uncharted territory, and while there’s nothing concrete, there are some cool pieces worth examining – the first being the “Commander A” and “Commander B” playmats.
While most set releases in 2024 had four accompanying Commander decks, Aetherdrift, the first Standard set of 2025, is confirmed to have only two. Combining that information with this listing of Commander A and Commander B playmats, its likely that all 2025’s Standard sets will only have two Commander decks, down from four.
The second detail is the mention of “Mythic Land” playmats. According to the listings, there is likely to be a cycle of mythic rare lands in Edge of Eternities. While mythic rare lands are nothing new to Magic, a full cycle of lands at mythic rarity is much less common. When printed, the cycle is often tied to other cards, like the modal dual-face cards from Zendikar Rising or the Gods from Lost Caverns of Ixalan, so a dedicated cycle would be rather unique.
