The students return home and balance is restored to Lorwyn-Shadowmoor in Lorwyn Eclipsed Episode 7

The seventh installment of the Lorwyn Eclipsed story begins with the dawn beast, Eirdu, sounding its approach.

Hearing Eirdu’s cry, all fighting among the kithkin and elves slows to a halt, and as beast comes into view, Abigale can be seen flying along next to it. With dawn approaching, Oko returns as well, meeting up with Kirol and Sanar to retrieve the vial of dawnglove.

With all the speed he could muster, Oko races the antidote back to Maralen, who’s condition has worsened considerably. Not one to be the hero, Oko first asks Ajani to be the one to administer the dawnglove to Maralen, but he refuses, still busy keeping Tam stable. Desperate to save his sister, Oko grabs the queen up in his arms and slowly drops the dawnglove into her mouth, and after consuming most of the vial, Maralen’s condition stabilizes.

“She’s not our mother-maker. She’s not Oona reborn. She’s not the sister I left behind, either. She’s Maralen of the Mornsong, always and ever, and everything that means. No matter how she changes, she’ll never be fully fae again, any more than I will. I’m only sorry she didn’t have the same choice in the matter that I did. I’m only sorry she never got to run.”

With Maralen seemingly out of danger, attention turns to Tam and Ajani. Since arriving on the scene, the planeswalker had been using his magic to heal Tam, but it seemed that no matter what he did, her wound continued to bleed. Seeing that Maralen was no longer in danger, Oko offers up the rest of the dawnglove, which is then poured into Tam’s wound, and Ajani attempts once again to heal the youth.

Dawn having finally broken, Eirdu approaches Isilu while Abigale descends for a much-needed reunion with the other students. After greeting one another, the unexpected happened, as the two great beasts “began to wrestle, moving away from the smaller bipeds, play-fighting with exquisite care…” Balance had finally been restored.

Breaking from their play momentarily, Eirdu leans over to breath “a great gust of summer afternoon, filled with the warm smells of sunbaked grass and blooming wildflowers…” onto Tam. Reacting immediately, the dawnglove on her wound begins to glow, and the youth sits up none the worse for wear.

Now fully reunited, Abigale explains to the group that after falling into the river, she was rescued by the merfolk, who then took her to where Eirdu was sleeping. When she approached, Eirdu awoke, drawn by the smell of Isilu that clung to her, and began to follow the scent, leading it to the battlefield.

Now back on her feet, Maralen turns to address Rhys, who is clearly relieved that his actions hadn’t caused her death. She tells the elf that she has no intention of punishing him, and that she understands that he was only doing as she had asked. With their promise now fulfilled however, the magic that had been keeping Rhys alive for so long was undone. After this detail is pointed out, Maralen encourages Rhys to make another promise, but the elf refuses, recognizing that it is his time to go. After a brief embrace, Rhys bids farewell to the queen and Eirdu before disintegrating into “flower petals, dawnglove and moonglove and apple blossom.”

Leaving Maralen to catch up with her brother, Ajani bids farewell and gathers the students to finally head back home. As they prepare to depart through the Omenpath, Lluwen steps out from the treeline and pleads to come with them, as Morcant would surely have him killed if he remained on Lorwyn. With supporting testimony from the students, Ajani agrees to bring the elf along, and the group steps into the Omenpath.

“The cross-planar student program is still taking admissions,” said Tam. “He could probably enroll there. In exchange for everything he knows about this plane, I’m sure they’d grant him a scholarship.”

After a brief time skip, we find Liliana in her office giving a stern scolding to Tam, who pleads with her professor not to take any “academic measures.”

“You’re certainly right about that. Because next time, I’m not going to ask Goldmane for another favor, I’m just leaving you wherever you end up! There are far more dangerous places in this Multiverse than Lorwyn, and from what I’ve been told, your time there was dangerous enough. Count yourself lucky that all you came back with was a good story and a strange elf. Encounters with that bastard Oko rarely end that well for anyone but him.”

Dismissing the student, Liliana remarks to herself that Tam has a bright future, but her respite is brief, as an unfamiliar knock sounds at her office door. Rising cautiously to answer, Liliana is shocked to find herself standing in the doorway, wearing a white gown and a “warm, almost sisterly smile.”

“Liliana could only stare as the white-clad version of herself stepped past her into the office, pausing to lay a hand briefly across Liliana’s own and say, in a soft voice, “Maybe close the door, dear. We need to have a conversation.”
