Ravensburger, developer of the Disney Lorcana trading card game, has announced the game’s first set of bans impacting the Core Constructed format.

For the last few months, Disney Lorcana’s competitive player-base has been clamoring for action to be taken against sapphire, as its metagame share had quickly grown to an oppressive state. Up until this point however, Ravensburger had gone to great lengths to avoid outright banning cards, including completely changing the text and reprinting Bucky instead. Thankfully, it seems the ban aversion has lifted, and action is being taken to remove Hiram Flaversham – Toymaker and Fortisphere in the Core Constructed format.
According to Ravensburger, they are choosing to remove these cards from the format to “…ensure the greatest diversity of successful strategies…” are available to players. “No card is ever designed with the intention of it not being played in competition” adds Elaine Chase, Chief Marketing Officer for TCGs at Ravensburger. “But in order to keep the meta-game healthy and challenging without it feeling stale or repetitive seeing the same strategies again and again, the TCG design team at Ravensburger made the difficult decision for the good of the game.”
Ravensburger also made sure to reiterate that Hiram Flaversham – Toymaker and Fortisphere are only banned in Disney Lorcana Challenge events and the Core Constructed format, and encourages players to continue using them in casual games among friends and family.
The Core Constructed ban of Hiram Flaversham – Toymaker and Fortisphere is effective immediately, April 8, 2025.
