You might recall my last turn on the Daily, in which I made lists of various Magic-related things that I thought would be interesting. The positive response to that Daily was above and beyond anything I could have expected; I’m not gonna lie, once I find a gimmick that works, I tend to go with it.
Mark once wrote about the perils of falling into the Green Trap. Are the Green cards blinding prospective Sealed Deck spellslingers, luring them onto the rocks of a losing record? And how do the Green cards fare now Dissension is in the Sealed mix? Limited Champs are just around the corner, and Pro Tour Qualifiers for Kobe loom large… just how should we value Green in today’s Limited game?
Regionals are approaching fast… are you prepared? If not, then let Mark introduce you to his Rakdos Hellbent deck! Dissension brought us many powerful, aggressive cards, with the Rakdos guild teaching us that our hand is a resource just like any other: a resource which can be spent. As the Standard metagame takes a metaphorical shape, our “Road to Regionals” series will spread the tech that’ll keep you all one step ahead of the opposition!
My Team Standard Pro Tour Qualifier didn’t turn out too well. I just found out that I won’t be doing Regionals because it’s on the exact same day as my sister’s wedding. Playing qualifiers in That Other Game tends to put me on full-blown, yelling-at-people-for-no-good-reason tilt. So how do I get enthusiastic about gaming again? Why, at a Grand Prix Trial for Toronto, of course!
Mark rounds out his Week of Lists with his Top 10 Magic articles of all time. Essential reading for anyone with a love of the game.
Earlier this week, Mark brought us a list of Magical superheroes. He paired the great and the good of the Magic community with their comic-book alter-egos.
Today, it’s the turn of the villains….
Mark continues his entertaining series with a look at the most important cards for Team Standard. Excellent information for those planning a trip to GP Madison this weekend…
Mark continues his week long series of Magic-related Top 10 lists with a look at the interaction between comic heroes and Magic personalities. Ever wondered which superhero Tim Aten most resembles? The answers are inside!
This will be The Week of Lists. I will make various Magic-related lists, and you will log into the forums and tell me what an utter Dumb Ass I am, and how your list is quite obviously superior.
Sound like fun? Let’s go!
Each day this week, your Premium writers will be commenting on the upcoming Pro Tour event, with analyses of what decks to see, how the format will shape up, and updated revisions of existing powerhouses. In today’s installment, Mark explores some possible directions for the popular GhaziGlare archetype with Guildpact, and brings us a detailed rundown of the more popular metagame matchups the deck may face.
The Ravnica/Guildpact Sealed season continues, and Magic players across the world are posting excellent finishes on the back of Green-heavy cardpools. Mark, however, feels that the Green cards are not always the perfect path to victory. In this article, he suggests that to truly succeed at this format, we need to do much more than lay Forests and cast monsters…
Now that Limited PTQ season has finally begun, Mark takes a look at some of the specific traits Ravnica (and Guildpact) Sealed has to offer.
Some people even went so far as to say that Mind’s Desire is an “awful” card, and that Chris battled to the Top 8 on the back of pure playskill and experience with the deck. Having seen Chris play at States the week before the Pro Tour, I can vouch for the playskill part. However, after playing some games with the Ideas Unbound version, I began to agree with the anti-Desire people too.
Before the tournament Saturday, Mark Young was debating between two decks, Critical Kudzu and something rather rogue and not completely tested. His foolish friends convinced him to run the rogue deck and it landed Mark smack dab in the middle of his first Virginia States Top 8. What deck did he play? Why Greater Good Combo, of course!
