While we wait for Theros to hit Magic Online, the downtime must be filled, and the Qualifier Points must be earned with the fun old formats that are available for a limited time only: Cube and Ravnica-Guildpact-Dissension Draft. This week I’ve recorded a RGD draft, and next week I’ll be Cubing.
I don’t remember RGD especially well, but I know that I liked being aggressive and am guessing that’s only gotten better now that people are probably less familiar with the format and more likely to be pulled in weird ways, allowing aggressive decks to punish them. That’s how I approached this draft:
I’m slightly concerned about the mana, but I’m pretty happy with the curve and the ratio of creatures to removal to tricks. I think I’ll do pretty well if my mana cooperates.
It didn’t really feel like I was playing powerful spells—people just couldn’t answer a Magemark on a creature for some reason. That and Rakdos Guildmage. While it looks weird to win with such marginal cards, I think this was a fairly representative example of how I expect decks like this to play out.
