Pick 2: For me the decision is between Aethersnipe and Incandescent Soulstoke. I
choose the solid and safe Aethersnipe, as Blue/Black is a nice color
combination. Aethersnipe is very good, and if you happen to play some guys
and then turn 5 Shriekmaw, turn 6 Aethersnipe you’re probably winning. But I
timed out on this pick, as I really wanted to pick Incandescent Soulstoke,
lord of the elementals… Shriekmaw is one too, and we can probably table back
one elemental from this pack, maybe Fire-Belly Changeling.
Pick 4: Ethereal Whiskergill is the only card I consider picking at this point
from this booster for Blue/Black. There’s also Ceaseless Searblade. I
decided to pick it, because I’ve been passed some really good stuff for the
elemental deck, so I hoped it wasn’t too late to go for it. So far I have
Shriekmaw, Aethersnipe, and Peppersmoke, all of them will be played if I end
up Elementals, and if I don’t and go back to Blue/Black, I’ve only lost an Ethereal
Whiskergill.
With two consecutive Flamekin Bladewhirl and a second Ceaseless Searblades
that tabled back, I was rewarded by gambling on the Searblade over Ethereal
Whiskergill.
After waiting 45 minutes for the server to go online again, what always
happens is I lose two quick games in 5 minutes… and this time was no
exception.
I played versus a Red/Black Giants deck.
I mulligan game 1 and keep an aggressive start, playing turn 1 Flamekin
Bladewhirl and turn 2 Soulbright Flamekin, but he stopped them with
Stinkdrinker Daredevil, and then killed my side with Thundercloud Shaman. I
evoked Mounrwhelk, trying to balance the card parity, which he thanked since
it allowed his Warren Pilferers to have haste. I still played Dread, which
he killed at the expense of his creatures. I had to block because my life
total wasn’t high, and after that his second Pilferers finished me off.
I mulligan again game 2, and kept a hand with Swamps, Skeletal Changeling, and
Dread. The Skeletal bought me some time until I had six mana to play the
Dread, but he just threw two burn spells at it, and continued attacking me
until I was dead.
