I started the draft with Dreamspoiler Witches. The other card I considered
picking was Changeling Berserker, but I prefer Witches. Then
Mulldrifter and two blue cards followed, and a fifth pick Weed Strangle
followed by some Black playables settled me into Blue/Black. From here I
didn’t have many tough decisions, as it was mostly just choosing between one card or
the other for Blue/Black, and deciding whether or not to splash Arbiter of
Knollridge.
Round 1 I played versus Red/Green splashing Black for removal.

We had three very good and very close games. Game 1 I made a small mistake
and took three extra damage because of it. I stabilized at six life but
managed to stay safe. Game 2 was the longest one. I drew 8 spells and 13
lands, but managed to stay in the game for a while because I played Shriekmaw
three times thanks to Whelm and Pilferers. Interestingly, he played
Hostility three times too. Game 3 was the fastest, and I was lucky
to win, as it involved a race with my evasive creatures while chumping his
Hostility and Seedguide Ash. If he’d had removal he would’ve won.
Round 2 I played versus Black/Red Goblins.
Game 1 he mulliganed and had Facevaulter plus Adder-Staff Boggart. He
killed my first two creatures, Theiving Sprite and Fallowsage. On turn 5
I got the Sage back with Pilferers. He played Knucklebone Witch and another
Facevaulter, and attacked with the first Facevaulter. I blocked with
Pilferers, and traded it for the two Facevaulters, growing his Witch to 3/3.
My turn I played Fallowsage, and at the end of his turn Peppersmoked the
Adder-Staff Boggart, then Weed Strangled the big Knucklebone Witch and
attacked with Fallowsage. He played a creature, I bounced it with Whelm, and
he conceded.
Game 2 he started with Facevaulter and Knucklebone Witch, I killed
Facevaulter in response to Witch with Peppersmoke. His next creature was
Lowland Oaf. He attacked me for a while until I gained control of the game at 8 life. At
some point I started attacking with Sentinels of Glen Elendra, and he
conceded while still at 18 life since I had the board completely under
control.
I split the finals with Nick Lovett.
