Pick 5: I have two really good Black cards and two really good Green cards, and I
don’t want to splash Aethersnipe or move into Blue. Fertile Ground is an
accelerator, good since my picks so far cost 4 and 5 mana, and it can make me
think about splash options in the future.
Some late Red picks kept my options open. I was Green, and could be Black,
or Green/Red splash Shriekmaw, I was looking to find the answers in the
second booster.
Pick 16: Nothing Red, nothing Black, a couple of good Green cards. I thought I
had the mana to support Doran, having Wanderer’s Twig and Fertile Ground,
and I already had 3 Treefolk that go very well with Doran, so I took
it.
Round 1 I played against a good Blue/Red splash Black deck.
Game 1 I lost to turn 5 Mulldrifter, turn 6 Cryptic Command.
Game 2 I was lucky to win because I played an early Changeling Titan and
his answer to it was kill it with two blockers and a Tarfire, but he managed
to hit. He stabilized the game at two life, but I topdecked a Bog-Strider
Ash for the last two damage.
Game 3 I was always behind. He killed my turn 3 creature, then
played Mulldrifter on turn 5 and Hearthcage Giant on turn 6 thanks to
Soulbright Flamekin.
