Finally! A deck that I truly like. Despite what many people think, I don’t
like Elves or Kithkin. The decks that I like look much more like this one.
Pick 1: I’ll pick Mulldrifter over almost everything on the format, including
the cards in this pack.
Pick 3: There’s a Rare and Aethersnipe missing, not good news, Ruud Warmenhoven
opened this pack two seats away from me probably took the rare, and Craig
Stevenson to my immediate right probably took the Snipe [Yup. I played a decent W/U Aggro Merfolk deck with three Streambed Aquitets, but didn’t make it out of the miasma of Round 1 – Craig]. I pick Tarfire over
Glarewielder, I only like Glarewielder in pure aggro decks when I
already have some removal, or in elementals. In all other scenarios I like
Tarfire better.
Pick 4: I know I passed Final Revels, but I don’t have many options and I like
Hornet Harasser in control decks.
I finished the first Booster in Blue. Adding to my first picks, I also
received Drowner of Secrets and Inkfathom Divers. I also had a pair of
Black and Red cards.
Pick 16: Like I said before, I like
Mulldrifter better than pretty much everything in this format.
Pick 17: The toughest pick for me. I feel I could still go Merfolk, as I had
Drowner already but no White card so far. On the other hand, Mannequin keeps
me in color, and I already have two Mulldrifter. Hornet Harasser also
works fine with it.
Had I went for Merfolk, I would’ve got some Wellgaber Apothecaries and a pair
of Harpoon Snipers, but I was happy with how the deck turned out.
Round 1 I played versus Blue/White splash Red. Game 1 he had Judge of
Currents, Springleaf Drum, and Silvergill Douser and was gaining life, but I
had some Merfolk plus Drowner of Secrets. He was having trouble getting
through, running low on cards on his hand and library, and he conceded when
I played Mulldrifter.
Game 2 he had an aggro start: Silvergill Adept, Avian Changeling, Ethereal
Whiskergill, and Wellgaber Apothecary. I played Faerie Harbinger, Mulldrifter
(drawing 2), Peppersmoke (drawing 1), and Glen Elendra Pranksters. The rest
was 12 lands.
Game 3 his start was slower and I pretty much did what I wanted with the
combo of Pranksters and Faerie Harbinger. The first time I fetched Faerie
Trickey. I countered something, returned the Harbinger to my hand, played it
again, fetch Dreamspoiler Witches, and I was holding Peppermoke in case he
tried to kill in response. Then I played Dreamspoiler Witches, used
Peppersmoke, killed creature, drew a card, returned the Harbinger to my hand…
since I already had some flyers I could go for Mirror Entity, but he
conceded before that.
Round 2 I played against Ruud Warmenhoven with an all Treefolk Black and
Green deck.
Game one I died with six good cards in my hand, and plenty of mana
available. I played and replayed Mulldrifters, but I was fighting an
indestructible Treefolk team, and Liliana Vess. If I could watch the replay,
I’m sure something different could’ve been done.
Games 2 and 3 he mulliganed once each game, got weaker draws, and died
to my flying team in game 2, and Mirror Entity game 3.
I split the finals.
