Pick 1: Draftcap saves, on average, 3 out of 5 of the drafts I do, so lately I’ve
noticed Elves are no longer underdrafted as people are starting to pick those Huntmasters as high
as they deserve. Instead, the card/tribe that I think are being
underdrafted right now are Kithkin, especially Plover Knights. Recently I had really
good decks, one with 3 Plover Knights, the other with 4, so I went with the
Plover Knights this time over the more conventional pick of Dreamspoiler
Witches.
Pick 2: This pick could have, and probably should have, been Marsh Flitter, but I
think Plover Knights are really good in multiples.
Pick 3: If I had taken the conventional picks of Dreamspoiler Witches and Marsh
Flitter, I would now have a Wort. As it is, I pay a heavy price picking the
Wort, and there are also plenty of good White or Blue cards. Silvergill
Douser is the better card, while Avian Changeling keeps the theme of the deck:
Kithkin and flying.
After the first booster, I was looking to be Kithkins or W/R Giants.
Pick 17: I love Mulldrifter, and I realized I could splash it, or even switch to
Blue as I had a Broken Ambitons.
Pick 20: I took a decision and hoped to go Blue with this Pestermite.
Third Booster I opened and got passed really strong uncommons for Merfolk,
so it was a lucky change of colors, as the right cards were opened in the
right places coming to me.
Round 1 I played against a weak White/Black deck. My opponent played some
bad cards against me, and then conceded the match still in game 1.
Round 2 I played versus Red/Black Elementals.
Game 1 I’m on the play, and start with Silvergill Adept, Drowner of
Secrets, and Veteran of the Depths. His first plays were turns 3 and 4
Eyeblight’s Ending and Moonglove Extract to kill the uncommon Merfolk.
Meanwhile I was attacking with the Adept. Turn 5 I played Fallowsage and
Goldmeadow Harrier. His play was just evoke a Mournwhelk, so I got the game,
unless he found some mass removal spell. He didn’t.
Game 2 he was the one on the offensive, with a pair of Soulbright Flamekin. I
played turn 2 Deeptread Merrow and chose not to trade, as I was holding
Summon the School. Turn 3 I made Drwoner of Secrets, which he killed. Turn 4
I played Summon the School and attacked with my 2/1, leaving the two 1/1
Merfolk for the two Soulbright Flamekin. He played Glarewielder and attacked
me to 7. On my turn I played Avian Changeling and left everyone on defense.
He attacked with all three creatures. I blocked with my two 1/1 Merfolk on his
two 2/1s, and Avian Changeling on Glarewielder, instead of the Merrow 2/1. He
gave trample to everyone, and I was down to 4. I felt safer at four, rather
than three, even though the only spell that can potentially deal three damage is
Lash Out (in the common slot).
On my turn I attacked with the 2/1 and played Veteran of the Depths. He
played Flamekin Harbinger, putting Ashling Pilgrim on top. I attacked with
both creatures, and the 2/1 traded with his Harbinger. I played Kithkin
Greatheart and passed. He played Ashling, and at end of turn I tap it with
Pestermite, and attack with everyone. Since the Veteran of the Depths was
already very large, I tied the life totals, so his Ashling ability would only
get him a draw instead of a win. He miscliked/forgot about activating it
at the end of my turn, so on his turn he could only deal three damage and I was at
four.
I split the finals.
