After being passed Imperious Perfect and Jagged-Scar Archers, I was looking
for Elves to keep coming. I ended up drafting one of the archetypes I’ve
been more successful with: Green Elves splashing White.

Round 1 I played against Red/Black Goblins/Elementals

He was quite unfortunate. Game 1 he mulliganed on the play and saw only
Mountains. He drew the Swamp mid game, played a card, and died the next
turn. On my side, I played Imperious Perfect. I saved it from Lash Out with
Briarhorn, and it lived for the rest of the game, holding and then
overwhelming the small Red creatures he played.

Game 2 he had a pair of Mudbutton Torchrunners on defense, and a Dolmen’s
Gate in play, doing nothing with that draw. I accumulated some creatures,
then attacked with everyone and a Nath’s Elite. It was blocked by the two
Torchrunners and another creature. I played Surge of Thoughtweft, with the
combat damage he went down to three. He killed two creatures when his
Goblins died, and I was left with a pair of 1/1s, but with him at three life.
I played another guy, and had an Oblivion Ring for his next play.

Round 2 I played against U/W

I lost game 1. I played very few spells. I made Leaf Gilder, which was immediately
killed with Oblivion Ring. I also played a Ring of my own on one of his
creatures, and then I just sat there doing nothing, as my
hand was a pair of pump spells. He wasn’t attacking with his Harpoon Sniper
and Kithkin Greathart, so he was probably playing around Gilt-Leaf Ambush, a
good call since I had two in my deck. I finally played Vigor, tapping out,
but he bounced it with Whirlpool Whelm, won the clash, and attacked for eight
damage. With this scenario, I knew I was dead in a few turns, as he had
fliers as well.

Game 2 I started with Leaf Gilder and Gilt-Leaf Seer for some early
attacks. My Imperious Perfect was removed with Crib Swap, giving me a
shapeshifter, which was nice as it gave me an extra elf off Elvish Promenade.
With a bunch of 2/2 and 1/1 I always attacked into his bigger creatures, and
I always had a pump spell – Briarhorn and Fistful of Force – so I always
forced damage through. In both attacks I lost a token and a pump spell, but
in return I killed one of his creatures in combat. This allowed me to put
him on defense, in a situation where he couldn’t use his Hideway land.
Besides, with the Briarhorn I also got a new 3/3 body.

Game 3 I had a nice start: Leaf Gilder, Elvish Branchbender, and turn
4 my second Leaf Gilder, attacking for four damage with a Forest. His board so
far was Avian Changeling and Hillcomber Giant. He went down to 14, as
Leaf Gilder had attacked once before. Next turn he played Kinsbaile Balloonist
and attacked with the Avian. I was holding two Oblivion Ring, so I used one
on the Giant to put a lot of pressure on him as I had a second as a
safeguard. I made a 4/4 Forest and attacked with it and the three
Leaf Gilders. One traded with the Balloonist and he went down to 6. He then
Played Brion Stoutarm, but I was ready with Oblivion Ring #2. I made a 3/3
Forest and attacked with both Leaf Gilders. One traded with Avian Changeling
and he went down to 1. I won on the next turn.

I split the finals.

See you next week!
