It’s good to be back! I had to take a break from Drafting With Rich because I was doing a lot of traveling, and I had a decided disinterest in the TTP format. But now that Future Sight is online the format has vastly improved. It may just be the excitement of a new set, but everything feels fresh again. Even though every color is good in Future Sight, it still feels like everything is shaken up, and there’s almost a whole new format to learn. With that said, this is my first Magic Online 8-4 draft with Future Sight.
The first pick simply came down to color preference. Since I’ve been playing, and winning, with Green a lot lately, I took Stonebrow, but I wouldn’t fault anyone for taking either Strangling Soot or Fathom Seer there. I didn’t take Griffin Guide second, despite it being the best card in the pack, since it doesn’t share a color with Stonebrow and Time Spiral’s best Green common was in the pack. A couple picks later Fiery Justice set me into my colors, and I never had a reason to switch. In Future Sight I took Korlash over Fomori Nomad since I knew I already had enough playables, and Korlash is going for an absurd seven tickets.
The games in this draft weren’t particularly interesting. In the first round my opponent got a bit flooded both games, but it didn’t seem like it really mattered since all he played was a bunch of mediocre 1/1s and 2/2s, while I played 3/3s and 5/5s. He was never in either game.
Round 2 was another pair of blowouts. In the first game I had a pretty quick draw on the play. He suspended Errant Ephemeron on turn 2 and died before it came into play. Game 2 he didn’t play lands. His turn 3 play was Suspend Riftwing Cloudskate, no land. My draw wasn’t spectacular but it was good enough to beat the almost nothing that he did.
I split the finals so that I could go to the bar. (I drink after I play Magic. Sometimes.)
