This deck was just ridiculous. It must have been a combination of insane packs, and other people at the table not knowing how to draft. It turned out that I made a mistake taking Durkwood Baloth over Kaervek since despite having Vhati il-Dal and Spectral Force I felt it wasn’t worth playing the Green.
In the first round I played against a solid Blue/Red deck. I suspended Corpulent Corpse turn 1, and Mindstab turn 2, but after that I missed a few land drops, to the point where I discarded Nightshade Assassin and Madnessed it out on turns 5 and 6. Fortunately his draw wasn’t great either and he just had a pair of Coal Stokers, off which he mana burned for three, and played Tolarian Sentinel. Eventually the Mindstab got rid of his hand, and the Assassins – and Sudden Death and Strangling Soot in my hand – got rid of his creatures. In the second game my hand was Plague Sliver, two Tendrils, and Skittering Monstrosity. He was able to kill the Plague Sliver, but the Monstrosity killed him while I removed nearly all the creatures he played.
In the second game I played against a Green/Red sliver deck that looked like it was missing a color each game. I drew both Nightshade Assassins each game, and he couldn’t come close to competing with that card advantage since he appeared to be stuck with some dead cards in hand.
I decided to play the finals because my deck was just that good. In the first game he suspended Greater Gargadon turn 2, and traded creatures and spells until he was out of gas except for the Gargadon.I had Dark Withering for it, and some creatures to finish him off. In the second game he stumbled on lands a little and Phyrexian Totem didn’t give him any time to recover.
