This draft was a little annoying because the player two seats to my left was disconnected for the entire draft. He took the full amount of time for each pick, and lots of cards were passed much later than they should have been. After the first pack I was sure I was in Blue, but any of the other three colors were reasonable options, although I was leaning towards Red because of the Coal Stoker. After opening Firemaw Kavu my decisions were relatively easy for the rest of the draft, although I did think to myself that I should be in Black a number of times.
In the first game I suspended Ancestral Vision turn 1, and it’s pretty hard to lose when you do that. In the second game my opponent got suspended Mindstab turn 1, and played Clockwork Hydra turn 4; the combination almost completely locked me out of the game. In the third game I had a pretty ridiculous draw that led to me having nine creatures attacking to his none on turn 6.
In the second round I “played” Tomoharu Saito, but it wasn’t really a match. I had another of the ridiculous draws that the combination of Storm and Suspend lead to in the first game, and in the second, he failed to play a third land.
My opponent wouldn’t split the finals so I was forced to play against the excellent Black deck that I passed. The first game was close until I was able to trade away most of my team, which forced him to Cancel the Phthisis he suspended on turn 3. After that I unloaded my hand and he was dead in a couple turns. In the second game I suspended Ancestral turn 1, Cloudskate turn 2, had turn 3 Prismatic Lens, Grapeshot, and turn 4 Coal Stoker Empty the Warrens. Seems fair.
