I thought about the second pick for a long time but decided to stay White since the person behind me probably took the Tower Above and I’m not a big fan of Green White. The other itneresting pick was Scuttlemutt vs Mistmeadow Witch. I took the Scuttlemutt because I figured it would be good whether I ended up splashing Blue or the Redcap. I regretted it after the late Consign to Dream but it was a much safer pick and I figured my deck was already powerful enough.

Round one I played a couple close games against a solid mono Green deck. Two games in a row he played turn two Vexing Shusher turn three Hungry Spriggan and turn four Boartusk Liege. I won the first game by putting Armored Ascension on Safehold Sentry. He couldn’t really attack through it. When he did build an army and try I had Banishing Knack for it to bounce his Liege and block a Spriggan. Game two I struggled a bit more but was able to stabilise with Godhead of Awe. When he attacked with his Vexing Shusher and Scuzzback Scrapper that were both big thanks to the Liege I Snakeformed the Liege and traded with some tokens. I had more 1/1s than he did so he could never get through while the Godhead killed him.

Round two I played against a really good Blue Black deck. I would’ve lost the first game if he didn’t trade his turn three Leech Bonder with my random two drop for some reason. I had Banishing Knack for his Gravelgill Duo with Helm of the Ghastlord on it and I finished him off with Godhead of awe. Game two he played turn two Sickle Ripper turn three Gravelgill Duo turn four Crowd of Cinders and turn five Blue/Black Liege. I didn’t play anything relevant. Game three I had Armored Ascension for my Safehold Sentry on turn four. He died a couple turns later.

Round three I played against Nick. Game one I drew two Mimics Armored Ascension and some lands. He had Scar for the first Mimic Soul Reap for the second once it had Armored Ascension on it and that was game. Game two my draw was similar minus the Armored Ascension. This time I just played two Mimics which he stopped with a Rendclaw Trow and drew lots of lands while he killed me with Sootwalkers and some other dudes.

Kind of anticlimactic.

While the SSE drafts have been fun I’ll be glad to move onto Shards of Alara when it becomes available online. Next week my take on Shards for Limited play… see you then!
