Pick 1: I’m not sure about this pick. I think the Cenn Clique and Weed Strangle are all reasonable options. I took the Cenn because I’d been successful with White Weenie decks recently.
Pick 2: I’m not a big fan of Incremental Growth or Kithkin Harbinger so I took the Changeling which I do like. With some more thought I think the Harbinger is the correct pick.
Pick 5: I was kicking myself for taking the White card at this point but since there were still solid White cards for me it seemed incorrect to give up on them.
Pick 18: I was really kicking myself at this point. I don’t know how I didn’t get any White in pack 2 but sometimes what people behind you are drafting is just incomprehensible.
Pick 32: I didn’t even think I was going to play Mutavault but I figured taking the 15 tickets was the only way to salvage this draft. [Passed a Mutavault… Must be nice – Craig.] In a Pro Tour I’d have taken Weight of Conscience here.
This deck started off well but ended up mediocre thanks to a miserable pack 2. I lost the first round to a deck much better than mine. In the first game I had a solid start but ended up with both Black cards in my hand and no Black source. The game developed into a war of attrition and the fact that I had two dead cards in my hand left me short on spells when any creature or removal spell would have won me the game. Game 2 I mulliganed into a hand that would be great if I drew a Forest. I didn’t and that was that.
Looking back if I had taken Weed Strangle or Clique my deck would’ve been excellent but since I took the Cenn I don’t think there was really an opportunity for me to get into Black since there was always a reasonable pick for my unsuccessful Kithkin deck.
