Pack 1 pick 1:

My Pick:

Great in Esper pretty good in Grixis too and simply the most powerful card in the pack.

Pack 1 pick 2:

My Pick:

Lots of Black playables which could make you want to pick a card from another color. However if signals are pretty high in the list of things to focus on while drafting the top of the list is (by far) picking good cards for your deck. Here while the pack may be very Black and the signals wrong Capsule is still by far the best card.

Pack 1 pick 3:

My Pick:

Panoramas are not that good in aggro they are not as strong as Connoisseur Ogre and Elemental. Out of those three the most powerful (and the one I’ve the best chance to play) seems to be the 4/1.

Pack 1 pick 4:

My Pick:

Pack 1 pick 5:

My Pick:

When you have several cards of close quality (here Dragger Screecher and possibly Capsule) it is always better to pick the card of the middle color of the Shard as having at least one main color would will help your deck be more stable.

Pack 1 pick 8:

My Pick:

Nothing I’d actually like to play so I’d rather take the card I mind facing the most.

My Pick:

At the moment I think I’m not playing the Esper Battlemage at all but I should get “gold Blue” cards in the last pack.

Pack 2 pick 3:

My Pick:

Pack 2 pick 4:

My Pick:

Early drops are even more important than fixers in my deck right now.

Pack 2 pick 5:

My Pick:

The same goes here.

Pack 2 pick 6:

My Pick:

Pack 2 pick 7:

My Pick:

Not much I want to play nor to counterdraft actually. I just pick a possibly annoying spell.

Pack 2 pick 8:

My Pick:

Same problem again… I may end up short on playables.

Pack 2 pick 9:

My Pick:

Pack 2 pick 10:

My Pick:

A card that has improved a lot lately.

My Pick:

Deny Reality is a card I’d be willing to splash because it is great for the deck’s tempo but the flyer is a safer pick.

Pack 3 pick 3:

My Pick:

Stormblade is amazing but I don’t have a single Blue card I am expecting to play at the moment and a two-drop creature no matter how good it is won’t be the first.

Pack 3 pick 4:

Pack 3 pick 5:

My Pick:

Will help if I want to splash Blue. Also it is a Blue permanent for the Alchemist.

A pretty good deck even though the curve is definitely too high which is the reason why I’m running 17 lands and a Borderpost. Esper Battlemage did almost make the cut for that reason but as I am only playing 3 Blue mana sources I can’t really consider it a regular three-drop.

ROUND 1: 5CC

My opponent has forgotten to submit and therefore presents me an 80 cards deck in game 1. In the meantime my deck provides me with ideal draw with Turn 1 Parasite Turn 2 Goblin Outlander Turn 3 Shambling Remains Turn 4 Sewed-Eye Drake and Blightning for the win on turn 5. Apparently not having that much fun he decides then to concede the match.

ROUND 2: NAYA

I take the first game on turn 7 despite not playing a spell in the first three turns. Indeed my turns 4 to 7 are pretty sweet with Singe-Mind Ogre for 6 damage on turn 4 Giant Ambush Beetle hasted on turn 5 Bloodpyre Elemental on one of his two blockers on turn 6 and eventually on turn 7 Singe-Mind Ogre for another two and the Unearth from a Dragger I had cycled earlier on.

Game 2 is quite fast too as he starts off with turn 3 Wild Leotau while I fail to draw a fourth land until the very last of the game. More frustrating is game 3 in which I put him down to 1 despite his double lifegain action from Behemoth Sledge. Another two attacks later I’ve cleaned his board and have Goblin Outlander and Sanity Gnawers but he is up 12 life to 2 and still has the hammer. He draws Wild Leotau and equips while I draw Obelisk of Alara just a little too late.

Until Friday…
